I heard that some immigrants receive unemployment benefits, I would like to ask you if those benefits are accessible for unemployed women? I’m working but my wife can’t find a job. On what condition she can receive the benefit, does it depend on the country of origin?

Dear AlKhabir,

Applying for a benefit is under certain conditions possible. For persons who are temporarily – for example for study or unemployed women - in the Netherlands stays it's not possible. Person concerned must a benefit or regulate compensation in the country of origin, regardless of the country of origin. General information about benefit is find on the internetsite of UWV: www.uwv.nl or by the Sociale Verzekeringsbank: www.svb.nl.

What are the certain conditions if I may ask? The second website is in English but I can't find relevant information. Can you give more details?

Dear AlKhabir,

In The Netherlands we have some standarized arrangements. If you are a resident and you have a child, you get "kinderbijslag" (childbenefit). Your situation is not standard, and in those cases a website can not give "relevant" information. Nobody is "standard".
I would advise you to visit e.g. Het Werkplein in Enschede: Korte Hengelosestraat 1 (very near the station). They can inform you. In one way or another you will be linked to UWV and/or SVB. I give you the telephonenumbers (SVB in Deventer: 0570 506000 and UWV: 0900 9294).

Met vriendelijke groet,
Gemeente Enschede
