Enschede goes green with the new hybrid buses

Enschede goes GREEN. In 2010 the city of Enschede will introduce new hybrid buses. Similar to the hybrid setups on famous Toyota products, the experimental hybrid buses will use a hybrid powertrain system that combines diesel-fueled engines with battery packs and electric motor generators.

Regio Twente and local government are working together on a pilot project with experimental Connexxion buses which will be better suited for the environment. The buses must prove to be cleaner, more economical and quieter, and testing is slated to begin in 2010.

The University of Twente will conduct a research project to see how the bus drivers and passengers like the buses, and also the effects they have on those who live along the bus route. Computer simulations will help to determine how to make the buses more environmentally friendly. The goal is to lower CO2 emissions, diesel fuel use and noise. There will be six pilot projects taking place in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Gelderland, Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland and the Twente Region.

We are looking forward to take a green ride! Thumbs up for this initiative!”
